MSA SCBA Recertification Technician

The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) maintenance program consist of an annual Recertification that is specific to model. An integral aspect of this recertification process is the flow test. This course is specially designed and developed to address the full recertification process and after actions for an SCBA unit that does not meet the requirement.

This class should only be attended by those individuals who are, or will be, assigned to MSA SCBA Recertification. MSA Air Masks are life saving devices, students attending this module should the mechanical aptitude, experience and skill-set to perform the work.

Successful completion of the class certifies an organization as an MSA Authorized Recertification Technician, enabling persons to perform the highest level of SCBA Flow Testing maintenance on the MSA Air Masks.

Student delegates, will be subject to both theory and practical assessment on the below listed objectives, in accordance with the MSA Course Assessment Strategy (CAS).

MSA SCBA Recertification Technician

Perform a recertification task  on a given component of the MSA SCBA or complete ensemble.

Prepare a in service POSI CHEK 3/SmartCheck test bench prior to use.

Ensure you are in a clean suitable, resourced, ventilated area prior to performing a task.

Ensure your technical support reference material is up to current date.

Wear appropriate required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with a repair task.

Replace a rubber/5 point head harness.

Replace a 4 point head harness.

Replace the exhalation valve on the facepiece.

Replace nose cup inlet valve x 2 or valve seat x 2.

Perform a recertification examination on a given cylinder and valve on the SCBA.

Perform a recertification examination on a given subcomponent or SCBA accessory.

Perform a post repair or scheduled leak test on a given SCBA component/Ensemble using an in service POSI CHEK 3/SmartCheck test bench.
